Blu. You're telling me you call the tiny lobsters that make dirt pillars. that are made into a landlocked seafood boil with potatoes and corn. Crawfish? They're crawdads!! /lh /hj

Technically they're yabbies (if they're blue) or redclaws (if they're blue with a red claw stripe) where I'm from but my family (in the sense of my dad and brothers) call them crawfish. Cuz we're from Oklahoma originally (or at least my grandfather is and me and my brothers have adopted much lingo from my dad who adopted it from grandad).

I prefer redclaw or yabby cuz they're more fun to say. Specifically "yabby".

The Oppress sister may have been raised as proper ladies but they were still Zabrak. So that meant hunting! 

“Dani do you want to go fi-” Before Aster could utter another syllable, the small girl embraced her around the waist. Large amber eyes looked up at her with eagerness. 

Danica could never pass up fishing with Aster. Fishing meant crustaceans! 

She licked her lips oh the possibility of shrimp and crab! Oh how her tummy grumbled, “Let’s go! Let’s go! I'll get my ruler! 

The younger sister returned with her swim gear and the ruler gifted to her by Cress after the boy was mortified to learn Danica was fishing any crab she caught, “Aster!” their brother had said aghast. “You know better too!” 

The eldest Oppress girl had pouted, “ But she was so happy how could I crush her joy with the importance of conservation and regulation?”  The boy gave them an admonished shake of the head and a lecture after that. 

The result was Danica rattling off the importance of a crab being the right size or needing to be tossed back in the water. She repeated back the figures as well as gave an almost perfect impression of thier brother. Aster laughed as Danica has tossed back one of her catch, “Maybe next time little crab!” 

The black pincher crab failed to measure up and waved its claws as it sunk back into the water.

Aster dived into the water, the swamps of Dathomir were not of the blues from the holos and pictures of books. They had a beauty she could not resist. Something Ancient, something from long ago that refused to fade away. Gleaming greens and abuzz with life. A power she could feel thrumming just under the surface. “ Like calls to like,” Maul had told her. Dathomir called to her, recognized her, knew her…

Danica looked into the water. To an outsider it was murky, to her eyes it was clear as could be. A gift from the red planet bestowed on the children of Dathomir. 

“Aster there’s a swarm of yabby!”  the child whispered, barely able to contain her delight. 

 Aster handed her the net, and tsked her to adjust her gloves. 

Like all things on Dathomir even a mere shrimp has its evolved dangers. 

Venomous barbs on its claws and bodies, catching them meant special gear.  

Aster was dressed in a similar fashion to Danica, a suit that ensured the swamp did not bring out its surprises. It was for Danica’s sake. 

Aster has developed a tolderance to the venom, she had swum in the swamps since she was Danica’s age. No hit of venom could halt her in the water. Maul had been impressed, truly Aster was his child. 

But with Dani, well Danica Oppress had always raised concerns. The only non-force sensitive of Maul’s children and as clumsy as a tot. Maul was cautious about his youngest and with that came the gear, helmets and the guard. 

Atticus, the tusken Massiff sat and kept on alert. The massiff had been the child’s guard since his arrival when Dani was merely 6 months of age. Always about and near his little Dani. 

The massiff sniffed and gruffed as Danica resurfaced with a triumphant smile on her face and wiggling yabbies in the mesh net. She hooked it to the edge of the wooden pier and promised Atticus a good helping. The massiff’s typical stoic composure melted into a happy yip. His little Dani was so generous with her food!

Another moment longer, Aster’s lungs did not burn. The swamp was filled with life, the schools of silver fish that flickered under the low light, the large catfish that avoided her presence. She kept a careful eye out for the strong-jawed gators that thrived under the depths. She was a competing predator in the swamp of course….

In her net she had already nabbed the black clawed crabs. Thoughts of raw marinated crab swum by. Coated in chili powder that stung her tongue! What a delight! 

The sisters resurfaced with their treasures, Nets full of yabby and crab (all properly sized) Aster assured their brother as they returned home. 

Their buir delighted in thier large bounty, the Mandalorian weighing the nets with a smile. “My dear girls brought us a feast.”

Preparing yabby was not pleasant, the blue shrimp piled on the bowl, but Dani did not mind. Not when it meant the yabby would get added into a spiced stew that made the kitchen smell so delightfully or better yet sizzled in oil after being put in a batter of tempura. 

“Hey!Hey don't toss out the barbs!” Eris asked. Savage’s daughter always made sure to ask, as the Fortress’s up-and-coming poisons expert it was only natural she would want to collect samples. 

“As long as you do not try and eat them” Starlight warned. 

“Eat them!? Oh that’s silly I only apply the collected venom topically.”

Aster took apart the crabs with gusto. Curing the crabs got rid of the slightly venomous barbs on the pinchers. Eris gave Aster a disappointed look. 

“You will have to rip the claws from my teeth,” Aster assured. Growing up alongside Adter, Eris knew that threat to be true. She still had scars from little Edika.

The Oppress sisters lay back after dinner. Danica patting her satisfied tummy,  “Maybe we will catch a gator one day” 

“Dad will wring my neck if I took you to catch a gator” 

“And Buir will wish us all the luck” 

“And Cress will weep over the gator.” 

“And then wring our necks” 

The sisters laughed, their voices ringing in the dark. Dathomir thrummed at the sound as slumber came.

What's ur favorite type of crawdaddys

i've done some research in aquatic and marine biology in my time, and i’d have to say, i always marvel at the 'blue yabby.' while i haven’t yet had the chance to come across one in real life— i have seen photos. it’s a crawfish species with the most vibrant blue color i have ever seen in the wild… nature's wonders never cease to amaze me!

when it comes to enjoying seafood, i tend to prefer crab cakes, but i wouldn’t turn down a good crawdaddy boil either. thank you for the question! it’s very unique.

Guardian Of The Deep Blue

At the tip of the Pennisula Of The Chiba Prefecture, stood a hidden Village full of Monsters from Terrestria and Nadiria's Circle Of Caprice. The majority of Monsters were all aquatic based.

There were Mermans, Old Man Of The Seas, Wallop Scallops, Thaumatosauruses, Pollywiggles, Yabbys, and a ton of Khalamari Kids, and a ton of other monsters that now called the Village home. The reason they left was due to supply issues and finding a new safe home as the 6 months Aamon was in control put the denizens in multiple areas in danger. After Aamon was killed though it restored some safety, but many Villages had to make the tough decision to move after, as they needed a new home that could provide a wellspring of resources, so when news got to the Monsters about new lands, some decided to take the chance and follow along, which what led to this Village's creation.

This new Village was named Saltybreeze Bay, from the fact everyone in the Village loved the sea breeze that would constantly waft throughout the area

This was all being looked over and guided by the Saltybreeze Bay Mayor Khalamari, a huge squid like Monster and the now retired Lieutenant that once served Diabolic Halls Forces. Khalamari retired about 6 months after the one year anniversary of Psaro and Rose to go a look after the Aquatic Monsters who were leaving for the new lands ( Dragglenook made the move 2 months after the anniversary). The forces of Diabolic Hall were sad to see him go but they all understood the importance of this new undertaking. So here now Khalamari stood in the ocean, helping the citizens and keeping them safe and happy.

Of course there were a few hiccups, Khalamari and the Monsters had to be sure that they didn't bump into humans on accident. In there home world, human and monsters meeting was shakey at best, here it would lead to full on panic. The other issue came in the form of Kaiju, as the people hear called them, that would obnoxiously frequent the To-ky-o Bay, which Saltybreeze Bay was right at the mouth of. So Khalamari took it upon himself to show these Kaiju what a true Saltwater Monster was like.

The fights couldn't even be called fights, as Khalamari's strength, ice and water magic, along with his tox spells and surperior aquatic combat made it a cinch to take these Kaiju out. Though Khalamari didn't leave the Kaiju to the fishes, no Khalamari brought the corposes back to the Village so the Monster could have fresh meat and materials to use.

Overall things became peaceful and many Monsters found the new lives they were seaking, Khalamari even got to open up his Comedy Club The Wisekraken' Squid. It all made Khalamari incredibly happy, but there were days were he think back to his younger years when he was but a wee' Khalamari Kid. Those days were always looked back upon with nothin' but joy, as he played around with all his Monster Friends and a still Kid Psaro who was the one too invite all the Monsters to play around, enjoying fruits, fish, beaches, and gnarly waves they all spent the day enjoying. It was peaceful, fun, the days that Khalamari wished could last forever.

However the sad truth is that they didn't and soon Khalamari was left to mourn along with many other Monsters over the loss of there King and Queen.

Today was one of those days and though he was sad over his childhood friend's death, he hoped were ever Psaro was he was happy that Khalamari was helping bring that same joy they all experienced all those years ago.

Yabby: Yo,Yo,Yo Mayor Khalamari c'mon were waiting for at the Club, I hear we got some Monsters with some prime rib-ticklers tonight.

Khalamari: That's great! I be down there as quick as a Quayhorse!

Khalamari git himself ready, but before leaving he put a picture, he drew on papyrus when he was a wee lad, back on a shelf standing up before leaving to go to the Club.

And if one were too look closer at said picture they see a doddle made in happy times

The Defense Force were definitely confused about the lack of Kaiju near that specific area alright. A puzzle which is later solved once the alliance between them and Diabolic Hall is established. Saltybreeze Bay is definitely one of the first villages the group visits.

Considering my personal headcanon that Kafka's Kaiju form is semi-aquatic in nature, its the best place to learn as who knows when a opponent decides a fight should be taken underwater. Also Soshiro would sign him up for the comedy club upon learning there's one in the village. Psaro and Khalamari just further encouraging Kafka too.

Or how everyone learns how much of a crazy comedian the himbo really is.

6 January 2024 - We woke up at 6:30 am. Dion fed me some oats and berries for breakfast, and we were in the car driving towards the Blue Mountains before 7 am. We arrived at the Mt. Wilson Fire Station just before 9 am and parked the car there. We packed our bags and walked to the road to start our first and likely most difficult part of our canyoning day - hitchhiking. We got to the road and stuck our thumbs out! After a surprisingly short amount of time, a pickup truck pulled over. There were two big pitbulls in the front seat. The man driving let the pitbulls out, and they were the cutest, nicest, friendliest, and happiest pitbulls! They were wagging their tails and just wanted pets from me and Dion. The driver of the pickup truck put the two pitbulls in the bed of the truck, and Dion and I squeezed into the single passenger seat of the pickup truck. During our drive with this generous driver, the guy told us how he'd smoked weed for 45 years, and he only got busted for the first time last year. They fined him $3000 and took away his driver's license for 6 months. But he's got his license back now! The driver drove us all the way to the start of our canyon! We started hiking around 9:30am and finished the hike in just before 11 am. The hike in had some gorgeous views out into the Blue Mountains.

Dion and I changed into our wetsuits and ate some lunch before beginning the canyon. This canyon had several technical downclimbs and A LOT of swims. SOOOOOOOOOO many swims. And some of the swims were quite long and cold. The wetsuits were absolutely necessary. The downclimbs were fun and interesting with cool moves to search for and figure out. There were countless waterfalls from small tributaries that made the canyon look like a fairytale world. Many of the long swims were in sections of the canyon were the canyon walls were 40+m tall, and very little light made it down to the bottom of the canyon. These sections were very spooky, swimming through dark water that I couldn't see down into, like some monster was going to come out of the depths and pull me down. I think Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker felt similarly in the trash compactor. There were sections where a whole bunch of debris had gotten jammed in a constriction, and Dion and I had to maneuver and climb through these jams. All the rocks were covered in bright green moss, making them super slippery to stand on or place a hand on. We saw a bunch of wildlife! We saw: 4 yabbies (crayfish), a couple lizards, one Blue Mountains tree frog, some fish, about ten thousand tadpoles, a couple of kookaburras, and one wallaby! The first yabby was kind of small, so I thought that was the norm, but the other three that we saw were probably 9 or 10 inches long!

We were out of the canyon around 4:30 pm, and we began the hike out back to the fire station where we'd left Dion's car. The hike out of the canyon had some beautiful views into the valley and canyon that we'd just come out of.

There were some really tall ferns, that looked like trees, rising about 10 m up from the ground.

We got back to Dion's car around 5:15 pm, so around an 8-hour day in total, including hitchhiking. Here's the track

On the way home from the Blue Mountains, Dion and I stopped at a Pub for dinner and devoured some pizza. Dion dropped me off at a train station in Sydney so I could train/bus back to Dee Why.

I'm grateful to Dion for feeding me, for driving, for having the motivation to do this canyon, and for his company. I had a great day exploring this cool place with Dion today. I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience Bell Creek Canyon and see all the wildlife that we were lucky enough to see. I'm grateful for delicious pizza at a pub in the Blueys.

hypothetically speaking if bts were crustaceans (btc - bullet troof crustaceans) who would be what because i can definitely see namjoon as a crab (classic crab crove) and jin as maybe a lobster (i am not implying anything bad ik lobsters are cold and distant lovers)

i can also see all of them being hermit crabs just trading their shells like how they rehouse shells irl in the ocean or something idk where they live

crabs is definitely a classic. i could see them as ghost crabs, just because i like the lil antenna lookin eyes they have. actually i think, hobi gives off floral egg crab, with the cool designs on his shell??

even vampire crabs are cool, and i think live mostly on land— so i could see them all living under rocks or under little huts on the beach together, bathing in little rock pools together??? i also know they’re good as an introduction to crabs as pets so they seem to be pretty chilled out and comfortable with life 🕺

if we’re talking individually, namjoon is definitely a red crab, and yeah it’s inspired by those migrating red crab videos. and yeah namjoon would be the lone crab trailing behind the group, enamored by the world around him as they migrate

i could see jin as a lobster!! maybe a spiny lobster, just because they’re a little more flamboyant looking than regular lobsters!! they also don’t have the scary little snappers, so they look a little more gentle!! i also think they’re huge, so that could be the human equivalent of wide shoulders LMAO

i think jimin would maybe be a tadpole shrimp?? their tails freak me out a bit because i think when i first saw them i thought they were just little blobs, but they’re small and not really that scary at all. jimin would also be the kind of crustacean to like fresh water instead of salt water!!

since vmin are besties, then tae would have to be a fresh water crustacean too, so he’d be a common yabby. i like the blue yabbies, but the more brown ones also kinda remind me of the suits tae likes to wear so they fit him quite well!! and then!! him and mimi can still live in the same water together!! two little crustacean babies just living good lives

jungkook is a fairy shrimp, i think it’s the eyes??? also inspired by the nickname baby star candy, i could totally see jungkook as a lil fairy shrimp!! they also swim upside down which i could see as something jungkook would do!!

yoongi was a little hard to choose for but i think maybe the louisiana crayfish fits him the most?? just because they’re highly adaptable to their environment, and can live in varying environments which seems like a very yoongi thing to be able to do

hobi is a remipedia just because it looks like their legs are waves when they swim, and hobi (probably has adhd) but you know he moves a lot, i could see that as his aquatic form of dancing 🕺

they’d all be so cute as hermit crabs!!! i was just about to look at what kind of environment they lived in but!! i just found out that hermit crabs are part of natures clean up and recycling service!! which is super cool!!

some hermit crabs also have super cool shells, and really pretty ones too, so i could definitely see them swapping!!

shrimptan sonyeondan 💪💪 they’d all be tiger shrimp in this universe, and i can’t explain why.

shark tan!!!!!! i think it’s common knowledge that jungkook is a thresher shark, there is no arguing about that. with the eyes??? their little mouthes and just ah, i love thresher sharks. (they’re definitely my favorite)

also whale sharks are super cool!! they’re my second favorite shark, so maybe they could be whale sharks.

but!! lemon sharks are the ones that swim in groups so maybe they’ll have to be lil lemon sharks??? or, the maknae line could be sucker fish, because they cling onto lemon sharks to eat all the parasites and keep them clean??

but also! jellyfish are super cool?? and sea bunnies. imagine them all as little sea bunnies ☹️

they are truely fascinating creatures honestly.

they use a 6th sense of electromagnetic sensitivity to find small fish, yabbies, and all sorts.

they are a mammal that lays eggs, one of the only ones in the world! (monotremes that is, the others are echidnas)

the babies are called puggles (LITTLE GUYSSS)

male platypus have venomus spurs! and are actually venomous to humans! thankfully no one has died from them yet.

they glow teal/blue green under ultraviolet which is so cool

for a hot minute they were thought to not be real and taxidermied together, when bodies were first brought back to England back in the ye'olden days.

they also close their eyes and ears when swimming! and only rely on their electromagnetic senses to navigate underwater!

they are so cool

though sadly they are near threatened, and are losing alot of habitat to climate change, habitat loss, pollution, logging and more.

hopefully with preventive measures they will not dip any lower then they already are, but it's good to keep in mind <3

It’s been a minute since I did one of these, but in a year that started with the death of a legend , and saw music infrastructure fracture even further into hyper-niche corners, I found myself more engaged than I’ve been in a while with new rap. Maybe the sheer impossibility of staying on top of everything freed me up to just hear what I hear and rock with what I like, or maybe I just finally burnt myself out playing Starlito tapes on repeat and needed something to switch it up with, but picking 50 was actually kinda tricky. Who knew?

A Country Weekend

Two hours north of Sydney, 4 km along a dirt road, having passed through two gates and three creek crossings, to reach a country cottage for the weekend.

The dam on the small property, here pictured in the golden dawn light, is surrounded by ironbarks, ranging from saplings to mature trees.

As an aquaculture experiment, Kimberley has seeded the dam with fingerling yabbies, but there is some concern about the resident Eastern Long Necked Tortoises. Will they devour the yabbies? David casts in a yabbie trap. It will need to be checked every couple of hours for tortoises. There were three caught and rehoused in a nicely flowing creek 300 metres away.

Planted within the past three years in the midst of drought, these bottle brushes have done well.

Going on a bear hunt? Going to catch a big one? No - we are off to check a lawnmower!

Yes, it's a stationary lawnmower fifty metres downhill, and it needs rescuing. Looks like a three-person push effort and a new main drive belt when it gets to the garage.

It might take a millennium for lichens, water wind, and the action of tree roots, and wombats to reduce these natural monuments to sand.

Sean’s Panaroma - Bondi - Restaurant Review

Sean's offers a quintessentially Sydney dining experience with a properly local and seasonal menu, bathed in sunlight and accompanied by the sound of Bondi's waves. The restaurant is refreshingly free from glitz and gimmick, and many food-loving Sydneysiders have fond memories of dining there.

Chef Sean Moran's passion for fresh produce shines through in the ever-changing menu, with many ingredients sourced from his Blue Mountains farm. Dishes like yabby tails, pippies, roast chook, chestnut gnocchi, kingfish carpaccio, and linguine with rocket and chilli oil are displayed on the blackboard menu, and complemented by an Australian wine list (with Champagne as the exception). The Chef's Choice of five courses with matched wines is highly recommended if you're open to surprises. And don't forget to save room for dessert, as Sean's is famous for them.

The prices at Sean's may be higher, but the quality of the produce and the execution are worth it. Don't expect culinary acrobatics, white linen, or a hushed atmosphere. Instead, the restaurant exudes a fresh and cheerful kitchen-table vibe that belies its professionalism and culinary prowess. The charming decor includes paintings, roses from the farm, and wood panelled walls. The restaurant's rickety-chic sign above the entrance says it all: it's memorable above all else.
